I set myself the challenge to redefine the way that an existing e-commerce Florist site interacts with users in order to make it simple, enjoyable and user-friendly.

My objective was to redesign their product page, category landing page, and navigation to better tell the story of their products.

A research and concept phase which referred to the existing website set the course at the beginning of the project.
General use cases based on personas, information architecture, user flows, mapping out features and lo-fi to hi-fi wireframes for the whole digital appearance followed.

The site usability and interfaces have been improved through the knowledge gained by user research, user testing and the formulation of requirements. These conveyed users behaviour insights to optimize the digital product.

This project started because of my love for flowers. I was very curious about the digital flower market. After exploring countless sites, I realised that there are just a few good ones. Mostly all of them were outdated, with inconsistent design and cluttered navigation. Not an easy and pleasant experience to use at all.

My role was as a UX/UI designer. I was responsible for these deliverables: research, analysis, affinity diagrams, personas, user flows and journey, card sorting to structure and validate IA, site map, wireframes, prototyping, building the style guide to apply it in the product’s interface design.

After gathering my research, I created user personas that helped to test and refine the designs from the site mapping phase right up to the final handoff.
Also, it contributed to understanding the target demographic, motivations, and habits.

Exploring concepts through user journey maps and sketching. I mapped the journey I wanted users to experience.

Questions they may encounter while shopping was “Show me what it is, tell me what it does, and let me explore what else I might like.”

Wireframe > Test > Resolve > REPEAT

Rough sketches were refined through wireframes, using the user journey as a guide. I designed a transactional journey from searching and selecting a product, adding to the basket and shopping. The creation of lo-fi wireframes allowed to begin testing the ideas with users. It was interesting to realise how each level of fidelity helped refine the site in a different way.

I sketched a broad range of options for consideration, with the user journey as a guide.

Rough sketches were refined in three distinct directions through wireframes. Starting with low fidelity, figuring out what is best placed where, and then moving on to higher fidelity. The cycle went something like:

Wireframe > Test > Resolve > REPEAT

Many UI elements had to be completely redone or rethought to make the user journey a pleasant one whilst also making it easy for the users to keep doing what they were already used to doing on the platform: ordering flowers. Most elements have not only been simplified to a maximum but have been designed to make the whole ordering process much faster.

The design is uncluttered, colourful, large and has a well-spaced layout. It features new UI components, typography and layout. All the design decisions help to exude a sense of confidence in the brand.

I opted for clear, readable typography —choosing colours with high contrast to increase legibility. The bright and pastel colour palette applied to the site and its illustrations represent a joyful experience, a celebration of vibrant nature.
I made sure that the call-to-action buttons really stand out of the design, choosing a bright orange colour.

Comparing the new site design to the previous one is like comparing day and night. To make it easy for shoppers to find what they want, the dashboard has been completely reorganised with improved navigation and category landing. The whole experience is flawless thanks to a side cart that is always present during the shopping process with easier ways for users to filter the products they are looking for.

I tested the high fidelity prototype with users that were involved in evaluating the already existing E-commerce Florist site. Their feedback was that I had achieved a clean and efficient way for customers to interact with the company and made a purchase. They also thought that the site had cheerful, clear and simple navigation.
